Do I Have to Get Ugly Metal Fillings?
When harmful bacteria decide to make a home on your teeth, it decays the enamel there. This causes a cavity, and while there is no way to regrow the lost enamel, Dr. Airey can remove the bacteria and damaged enamel, filling in that cavity with a special filling. At our office, we never use metal in our fillings. Instead, we use a tooth-colored composite filling that will repair the damage but look normal in your mouth.

How Can Root Canal Therapy Save My Tooth?
That same bacteria causing problems for your enamel can sometimes get inside your teeth, where the tooth’s pulp and nerve endings are found. That means your pulp can be infected, causing a bad toothache. To save the tooth from being removed, Dr. Airey can do root canal therapy. In this treatment, he makes a small hole in your tooth, carefully removes the infected parts of the pulp, replaces it with a special inert material then seals it up with a dental crown.

What Are Dental Crowns Used For?
Dental crowns can be used in more situations than only root canal therapy. Fillings can put pressure on the healthy enamel, and if a cavity is really big, that filling could cause your tooth to fracture. Then there are times when a tooth has been damaged by injury or accident. Our CEREC crowns are caps made to look like healthy teeth using special 3-D computer technology to ensure they look great. A crown is fitted snugly over the damaged tooth to restore its function and look.

What Is the Difference Between Dental Bridges and Implants?
Missing a tooth can make it harder to eat, so if you have a gap in your smile, we can help fill it and get you eating normally once again. Our dental bridges use a pair of crowns to securely hold a replacement tooth in that space. This replacement is made to fit that space in particular, so it will feel and look normal. Dental implants also use a replacement tooth, but they tend to last longer because they use an implanted artificial root to hold the tooth in place. We can even mix the two and use an implant-supported dental bridge.
