Don’t Wait For Replacement Teeth With Same-Day Smile
Same day smile is first when they come here, most of the time when we do a consult, they’re just wanting their teeth fixed. When we do same day smile, we have them back, the first appointment is basically taking the exam and the X-rays and listening to what they have to say to make sure that we’re understanding what their expectations are.
Then we actually get a shade. We have a booklet of shapes of teeth, what they would like, and what’s pleasing to them. With our dentistry here, the digital dentistry that we do, we can actually have them come the next appointment, basically, and mock up their front teeth and make them the correct length and the size and the shape that they like aesthetically but also that they can function, speak, and chew. We have them look at that, and they approve that. Then, we actually can give them the anesthetic, and we prep all those teeth. By the end of the day, if we’re doing six or eight front teeth, we can have them, with our digital camera, and with our milling machine and our staining oven, we can actually … They can leave that night with all six or eight of their front teeth.
We have people come from far away to do that. We have people coming up from Raleigh next month to do eight of them. When their family members tell them they can come in … Yesterday we worked on a lady that came all the way from Texas that did some front teeth, because she can get to look at them. As we’re doing them, they get to see the color. It isn’t where you have to send it to a lab, and it comes back. People who have had crowns done and if they didn’t fit correctly or they were the wrong color, you can just go back and forth. I did that earlier in my career. It was very frustrating not only for me but for the patient. Their time is valuable also. That we can now do this, and they can see exactly what they’re getting, and they can approve it, and they’re ecstatic.
Living with missing teeth is a pain, sometimes literally. It can make it harder to eat the foods you love, and your gums can get sore from hard foods like chips being mashed against them when you try to chew. Worse, food particles can collect along the teeth and gums at those empty spots, making it more likely you’ll be dealing with gum disease. And if you try to smile? Everyone is going to be embarrassed for you when they see that gap in your smile. Depending on your particular situation, there are several solutions including dental bridges, dental implants, and dentures. But if you are looking to get a full arch of teeth replaced (all of the teeth on the top or bottom of your mouth) and do not want to wait forever to get it done, Same-Day Smile treatment can work for you.
What Is Same-Day Smile?
Same-Day Smile is a way to replace your missing teeth in just one visit. That’s right, you come into our Boone, NC dental office with a huge gap in your smile, and you walk out with a full set of teeth like you should have. The replacement teeth are made specifically for you, so they will look beautiful, healthy, and normal in your mouth. With our CEREC technology, the replacements are made using three-dimensional images while your appointment is still going on.
Why Are Dental Implants So Useful?
Dental implants are normally used in Same-Day Smile to help hold your replacement teeth where they belong. There are several reasons for this:
- The implanted root helps your jawbone stay healthy: Your jawbone is used to having the roots of your natural teeth in it. When a root goes missing, the bone tissue around that part starts to deteriorate. Over time, small pockets can form in the jawbone, making that part weaker.
- They last a long time: Some dental treatments like dental bridges will need to be replaced sooner or later. Dental implants can last 25 years or more, meaning they can last for a long time if not a lifetime.
- They can withstand a lot of pressure: Biting and chewing puts a lot of pressure on your teeth. Your natural teeth can handle that, but some dental work can have trouble with all that pressure. Because implants are placed down in your jawbone, they can withstand a lot of pressure just like normal teeth.
- They look great: The replacement teeth made for the implants are customized to fit your mouth, meaning they will look normal and beautiful like any healthy teeth.
What Are Permanent Crowns?
Sometimes, a tooth doesn’t need to come out. It might be badly damaged, but Dr. Airey knows he can save the tooth once he has the damage sealed up and the tooth held tightly together. Our dental crowns can do both of those. These caps are made to look just like the teeth they cover, so they will fit naturally in your smile.
What Are Implant-Retained Dentures?
Dentures are full arches of teeth that are normally held in your mouth using a combination of suction to the gums and a special adhesive. For most of the time, this is all you need to keep the dentures in place. But there are times when dentures can move while you’re chewing or talking, or they can even fall out unexpectedly. To help keep your dentures in place, our Boone, NC dental office offers implant-retained dentures, which are secured by implants instead.
How Can This Be Done In One Day?
With regular dental implants, finally getting replacement teeth in your mouth can take awhile, especially if you have teeth that need to be removed first. The tooth extraction is done, and then you wait for that part of your mouth to heal. The implants are then surgically placed, which means another 3-6 months of healing time before the replacement teeth are finally put in place. But with Same-Day Smile treatments, we use a special kind of dental implant that doesn’t need healing time. We can remove any teeth in the way, place the implant in your jawbone, and attach the replacement teeth all in one visit. And with our CEREC technology, we can use three-dimensional images of your teeth and jaw to help create natural-looking replacement teeth while you are waiting.
