To achieve optimal oral health, you will want to find a trustworthy dentist to partner with. You can rest assured that our Boone, NC dentist’s office is here to help you maximize your smile power at every turn. Since we know that at this time of year it is tempting to get lax about your hygiene (and other) habits, we want to take a moment to encourage you to do the right thing as far as your dental health is concerned. For today’s blog post, we wanted to share some smile-saving tips, most of which you hopefully know already. In any event, keep reading, and then be sure to follow up and schedule your next appointment with Dr. Airey. We’ll give you plenty of reasons to smile.
Brush Like You Mean It!
Sometimes it is hard to know where to begin. But you have to start somewhere. Brushing your teeth is the least you can do for your smile. Seriously! The American Dental Association suggests that you brush two or more times a day for two or more minutes at a stretch. This will help prevent gum disease and tooth decay from taking over your mouth. The thing is that there is always dangerous bacteria lurking about just waiting for an opportunity to make trouble for you. Don’t put yourself at risk!
Brushing is great but it is only the beginning. You see, even with excellent brushing habits, you still won’t be able to get to all of the surfaces in your mouth where food, plaque, and other bad things can build up waiting to cause larger problems. Those spaces between your teeth are notoriously difficult to keep clean. So, you will need to be diligent. Find the floss, and make it count!
Fluoride Is Important!
There are other things you can do along the way. Dr. Airey knows that rinsing with fluoride is a great way to protect your smile. That’s why we want you to make it a regular component of your routine. That won’t be hard to do since it is contained in many mouthwashes and toothpastes. Additionally, your dentist can always set you up with a more intensive fluoride treatment the next time you are here.
Visit Us Often!
What you do at home is essential. Still, you won’t have the necessary skills and training or access to all the tools and technology that will be necessary to keep your smile on the good road.
Fortunately, when you visit our dentist’s office every six months at least, our team can provide you with dental sealants, professional teeth cleanings, gum disease evaluation, comprehensive checkups, diagnostic exams and advise you on cavity-prevention techniques. We can also screen for oral cancer and look for signs of other issues elsewhere in your body. You will certainly want to stay in touch with us.
