If you’ve ever had to wear a temporary dental crown, you know how unreliable they can be. Since they’re not made to your exact specifications, they’re uncomfortable and can fall out. Plus, it’s obvious you’re wearing one. But thanks to recent advances in computer-assisted dentistry, it’s possible to ditch “temporaries” altogether with same-day dental crowns!
Appalachian Dental Care is among the limited number of dental practices trained to use CEREC technology to provide same-day dental crowns. When you come to our Boone, NC office, you’ll be able to walk in with a damaged tooth and leave within an hour or two with a restored smile.
Plus, our office prides itself on providing comfortable, patient-centered care. You’ll love the dental care you receive as much as you love the effect your dental crown has on your smile.
How Are Same-Day Dental Crowns Made?
It seems like magic, but creating a high-quality dental crown in a single visit is possible due to our investment in state-of-the-art technology. To truly understand how revolutionary this technology is, it’s helpful to get a quick primer on how dental crowns are traditionally made.
In offices without the capability to produce same-day crowns, you’ll come in for your appointment and the dentist will prepare the tooth. This involves removing a small amount of your tooth enamel, which is the hard outer layer of your tooth, to make room for your restoration. Then, the dentist will take some images and impressions of your prepared tooth.
This information is then sent to an off-site, sometimes out-of-state lab, which fabricates your dental crown. When it’s ready, the lab will send it back. Between all the shipping and fabrication, it can take weeks for your dentist to receive your dental crown. And in that time, you’ll likely have to wear an awkward temporary crown.
But, we like to do things differently at Appalachian Dental Care. Once we prepare your tooth, we take a series of digital images of it. This serves as the blueprint for your dental crown. Then, we send that information to our in-house CEREC milling device. This machine then carves your dental restoration right then and there out of a block of ceramic. There’s no transit or processing time, so it only takes minutes to create your dental crown!
We’ll then bond the dental crown to your prepared tooth, and you’ll be on your way.
Are Same-Day Dental Crowns As Durable As Ones Made In A Lab?
At Appalachian Dental Care, we take the quality of our dental work very seriously. We want to offer you convenient solutions, but we also want to make sure your dental work will last a long time.
So, we’re happy to say that studies have shown that when same-day crowns are properly made, they can actually be “better than restorations made by conventional laboratory procedures.” That’s according to a comprehensive literature review of a decade’s worth of research, published in the Journal of International Oral Health.
How Much Does A Same-Day Dental Crown Cost?
As with most dental services, it’s difficult to provide even a ballpark figure of how much a same-day dental crown will cost. That’s because so much depends on your individual case. If you’re interested in a same-day dental crown from Appalachian Dental Care, give us a call to set up a consultation with Dr. Airey.
We do acknowledge that paying for dental care is a concern for some people, though. That’s why we’ve established a series of flexible payment options. Our compassionate team believes you should be able to do what’s best for your dental health without financial-related stress or anxiety.
Our office accepts most major dental insurance plans. However, we recommend you ask our administrative team about your specific policy prior to treatment. We’re a preferred provider through Cigna and Delta Dental, and we also accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover.
We can also work with you through CareCredit, which allows qualifying parties to enjoy low-interest or no-interest payment options.
