How do Hollywood’s biggest stars get that picture perfect smile?
The answer is often dental veneers, thin shells made of porcelain or composite to conceal imperfections in your smile. In fact, some say veneers are the beauty treatment many celebrities benefit from but rarely talk about.
If you’re wanting to get a red carpet-ready smile in Boone, NC, Appalachian Dental Care can deliver the dramatic transformation you’ve been looking for. Dr. Airey can help you decide if veneers are right for you. Read on for more information, and then call 828-355-5673 to schedule an appointment.
How Veneers Create Your Perfect Smile
One of the reasons dental veneers are so popular is their ability to quickly address several cosmetic issues with your teeth.
These problems include:
- Discoloration. If trauma to a tooth has caused it to yellow from the inside, bleaching treatments aren’t enough to fix the discoloration. Veneers address the problem by concealing the tooth.
- Worn down teeth. Our patients have found that veneers mask the damage caused by years of teeth grinding.
- Chipped or broken teeth. Small imperfections can be fixed with bonding, but veneers offer a more natural-looking and long-lasting solution, particularly for larger chips or breaks.
- Misalignment or irregularities in shape. If you’re self-conscious about an oddly shaped tooth, veneers can help.
- Gaps between teeth. Veneers can close the space between two teeth — no braces required.
A More Beautiful Smile In A Few Visits
So how do veneers work? When you first come to Appalachian Dental Care for your dental veneers, Dr. Airey will ask you about what issues you want your veneers to address. Using our state-of-the-art CEREC system, we’ll take a series of 3-D digital images of your teeth. We’ll go over the two materials we use for veneers — porcelain and zirconia — and help you decide what would best fit your needs.
The images and information you provide will help us create veneers to your exact specifications for a smile overhaul that’s comfortable and discreet.
When you come back to have your veneers placed, Dr. Airey will prepare the teeth with a thorough cleaning and — depending on what type of veneers you choose — by removing a thin layer of enamel to ensure a natural look. We’ll remove about half a millimeter of enamel, which is about the thickness of the veneer.
Don’t worry, though. Since enamel has no nerve endings, it’s not painful.
Finally, Dr. Airey will bond each veneer to your teeth. When all is said and done, you’ll be able to walk out of our office with a beautiful new smile.
It’s not uncommon for patients to get veneers on every tooth that’s visible when they smile. About one in five patients do. But most patients — about 65 percent — get four or more placed in the same visit, according to a recent report by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

A Veneer To Fit Your Needs
Many people don’t realize there are actually several different types of dental veneers. At Appalachian Dental Care, we offer both traditional and prepless dental veneers. Dr. Airey can help you determine which option best fits your needs.
Prepless veneers are great if the imperfections you want to conceal are fairly minor — things like slight discoloration, orthodontic relapse, or teeth that are a bit short. As the name implies, there’s no need to to remove enamel before placement of prepless veneers. This is because prepless veneers are thinner than traditional veneers.
If your smile requires more extensive work, we offer more traditional dental veneers. These veneers do require some enamel to be removed, but they also correct more severe cosmetic problems.
Dr. Airey, who has received extensive training across several areas of dentistry, will make sure your teeth are healthy from the inside out before placing dental veneers to prevent complications down the road. Not only will this protect your investment in your veneers — it’ll set you up for dental success for years to come.

Caring For Your Veneers
After the procedure, you’ll care for your veneers like you would for your natural teeth: with regular brushing, flossing, and dental exams.
Generally, dental veneers last between seven and 15 years before they have to be replaced. To avoid chips and cracks in your veneers, you may have to more carefully monitor your eating and lifestyle habits. Biting your nails or chewing on pencils could dislodge or break a veneer.
But if you properly care for your veneers, you’ll be able to flaunt your flawless smile for years to come! Plus, Dr. Airey makes it easy. Appalachian Dental Care offers general and restorative dentistry services, as well as solutions for sleep apnea, teeth grinding, and TMJ, all in the same Boone, NC office.
