Cosmetic Dentistry: A Smile You’ll Love to Flash

At Appalachian Dental Care in Boone, NC, we want everyone to have a healthy, brilliant smile. That’s why we’re proud to offer a wide array of cosmetic dentistry techniques that can brighten anyone’s smile and increase their self-confidence!

Whether your concerns are major or relatively minor, we have the answers. Here’s a quick look at some of the ways that Drs. Airey and Ladd can give you a smile you’ll love to flash.

Dental Bonding

Sometimes, smiles just need a little help. Chips, cracks, and fractures in the enamel of visible teeth can detract from your smile and make you self-conscious. Dental bonding addresses these problems by covering them with a very thin layer of tooth-colored resin. The bonding procedure is completely painless, quite affordable, and can usually be completed in one session.

Tooth Recontouring

Sometimes the better answer to chips and irregularities in the shape of your teeth is to take away rather than add. Tooth contouring removes very small amounts of enamel from the tooth surface and edges to give you a smooth, even look. Enamel has no nerves, so the process is completely painless!

Gums vs. Teeth

A beautiful smile requires a balance between the amount of teeth and the amount of gums that show. If you have a “gummy” smile, your teeth can look small by comparison. Dr. Airey can give you that tooth/gum balance by removing small amounts of gum tissue. On the other hand, if your gums have receded due to disease, he can treat that gum disease with scaling, root planing, and antibiotic treatment where indicated. Once your gums are healthy again, Dr. Airey can graft tissue onto your gums to give your smile the proper balance.

A Brand-New Smile

One of the best ways to cover numerous imperfections in your smile is with dental veneers. Veneers are very thin shells that completely cover the fronts of your teeth and hide any imperfections. We offer several types of veneers at our Boone, NC dental office. Porcelain and zirconia are made from different materials, and each type offers their own benefits and minor drawbacks. But every veneer we offer is made using advanced CEREC technology. Our veneers will look like healthy teeth and will fit perfectly into your smile.

Most veneers require that a very small amount of enamel be removed before the veneers are adhered to your teeth. However, we offer prepless veneers that don’t need any enamel removed beforehand!

Whitening Programs

No matter how shapely your smile might be, it can’t look its best if your teeth are yellowed, dingy, or stained.

Various foods, beverages, and smoking can all discolor your teeth. Brushing with a whitening toothpaste can help but usually isn’t enough to get your teeth as white as you’d like or to keep them that way.And some whitening toothpastes can cause wear to your enamel over time, which is the last thing you want.

There are a few causes of tooth discoloration, such as certain medications, that no whitening system will help. For everything else, we proudly offer Opalescence® take-home whitening trays that are custom-created for a perfect fit for you.

Tooth whitening is accomplished by applying a bleaching agent to the outsides of the teeth. Over-the-counter whitening systems have lower strengths of whitening agents than you’ll find in Opalescence. With our professional whitening system, you have the convenience of a take-home program with the outstandingly white teeth you want.
